Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer

Job Summary:

The Cardiac Sonographer performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history to adapt imaging techniques.
  • Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, making necessary measurements for accurate results.
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of the examination as needed.
  • Assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms with echocardiograph studies.
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment.
  • Act as a resource for staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, and studies.
  • Implement protocols for new technology and ensure adherence to system echocardiography standards.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to patients.
  • Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each type of cardiovascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Knowledge of proper infection control and patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and skilled utilization of computers and medical equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
