Job Description

As a highly skilled Architect, you will be responsible for performing advanced architectural work, including Schematic Design, space planning, cost estimation, and overseeing renovation/construction projects. You will supervise staff that perform similar functions and monitor the progress, budgets, and schedules of projects while communicating with project stakeholders and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develop Schematic designs and space allocation for renovation and/or construction projects, including preparing REVIT drawings and cost estimation.
  2. Coordinate departmental architect design and construction activities with agencies and review construction plans submitted by other architects.
  3. Supervise staff that design and manage renovation and construction projects, coordinate staff assignments, and accomplish project tasks.
  4. Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules.
  5. Prepare reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly) to communicate with project stakeholders.
  6. Oversee the development of guidelines, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations, and monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
  7. Manage and oversee activities related to construction, leasing, space planning, maintenance, operations, repair, renovations, and remodeling of agency facilities.
  8. Develop agency space management guidelines and standards, prepare request for proposals, and prepare floor, space, and/or furnishings schematics.
  9. Represent the business function, division, or department at meetings or training activities.
  10. Plan, provide input into assignments, and contribute to feedback on the performance and work of others.
  11. May assist with interviewing, training, monitoring, and counseling on the performance of assigned staff.
  12. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Architecture.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years full-time experience performing architectural or engineering work involving design and preparation of construction documents, preferably in commercial construction, renovation/maintenance of buildings. Minimum of 2 years full-time supervisory experience.
  • Licensure and/or Certification: Must be registered as an Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
  • Regulatory knowledge: Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership skills: Knowledge of management/supervisory methods and principles, performance/productivity standards, and fiscal/budget management.
  • Ability to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness.
  • Ability to provide clear direction to others, promote teamwork, and motivate others to accomplish goals.
  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g., CAPPS, SharePoint, and REVIT).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy, and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
  • Organizational and Prioritization Skills: Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment.
  • Presentation/Communication Skills: Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations and/or communications to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
  • Research and Comprehension: Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail: Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able to identify trends, relationships, and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.
  • Confidentiality and Protected Information: Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance, and dissemination of information.
  • Safety: Must be able to work in a safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.
