Job Overview

Library Systems & Services is in search of Information Research Specialists to conduct thorough fact-checking and citation validation as part of a peer review process. This ensures that scientific documents are accurately referenced and grounded in credible scientific evidence. The specialist will undertake two primary responsibilities: citation validation and statement alignment. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail and the capability to interpret scientific and academic literature across diverse fields. While extensive subject matter expertise is not mandatory, a foundational understanding of general scientific concepts, terminology, and methodologies is essential. This position is entirely remote but requires a flexible schedule to accommodate client demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and confirm the accuracy and completeness of all citations and references, including all bibliographic information.
  • Ensure that the statements, facts, statistics, and other cited factual assertions are precise and flag any discrepancies for further review.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA Accredited Institution.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in fact-checking, citation validation, or research services.
  • Familiarity with proper bibliographic citations and experience using bibliographic management tools such as EndNote or Zotero.
  • Ability to interpret scholarly works related to science, engineering, and medicine.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to think independently and critically analyze complex texts.
  • Reliable internet access is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience as a scientific research or reference librarian.
  • Previous involvement in the peer review process of scientific materials.
