Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Chief Technologist, the Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic examinations with minimal supervision. This role requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:- Follow physicians' orders precisely and adhere to regulations concerning radiation exposure to protect patients, coworkers, and oneself.
- Assist patients in transferring to the detector or exam table and ensure proper immobilization for radiologic exams.
- Verify patient identification on studies and route them to PACS. Send required information to Virtual Radiologic when indicated.
- Maintain a daily log of patients seen and operate radiologic or fluoroscopy equipment for diagnostic quality imaging.
- Obtain essential information from patients, medical records, and previous scans for clinical correlation.
- Monitor patient reactions to treatment and changes in physical or mental status, reporting changes to the appropriate person.
- Prepare and assist patients for radiologic procedures as requested by a physician, providing patient care with dignity and respect.
- Observe and follow safety procedures, including radiation protection and universal precautions.
- Carry out quality control checks on equipment and report deficiencies to proper personnel.
- Work independently and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments.
- Demonstrate commitment to total quality management and service excellence by acting in accordance with the organizational mission.
- Stay familiar with changes regarding technology and safety for self, patients, and visitors.
- Process studies onto CD or film format for patient study requests while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and working areas.
- Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination.
- Maintain familiarity with emergency drugs and equipment locations.
- Maintain knowledge of departmental booking, scheduling, duplication, and PACS systems.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training and continuing education requirements.
- Develop expertise in human anatomy, cross-section anatomy, proper positioning skills, and imaging techniques.
- Stay up-to-date with routine procedures and applications.
- Maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses required by the New York State Department of Health and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Promote and follow WMG policies, rules, and regulations.
- Perform related duties as necessary or assigned.
- New York State Radiology License and ARRT Certification
- Maintain superior diagnostic imaging in accordance with standardized procedures.
- Excellent patient and people skills.
- Ability to maintain a great knowledge in human anatomy and cross-section anatomy, proper positioning skills, and appropriate utilization of protocols and scanning techniques.
- High knowledge with variety of routine procedures and applications.
- Ability to maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses required by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Protection, and The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
