Smithfield Foods is seeking a skilled Transportation Planner to join our Supply Chain team. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing our transportation network to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Route Optimization: Review daily orders for accuracy and proper routing to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of our products.
- Load Building: Collaborate with transportation leaders and peers to set and build efficient truck loads to geographic areas, including single and multi-stop loads, focusing on cost and service when routing loads.
- Carrier Management: Tender loads to awarded contract carriers, including all customer and inter-company loads, and search for new carriers that can bring value to Smithfield Foods.
- Delivery Scheduling: Schedule delivery appointments with customers to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of our products.
- Process Improvement: Support transportation processes to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and maintain market edge on refrigerated transportation.
- Education: Associate's degree in transportation, logistics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the transportation industry, transportation rate structures, and current trends; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, copiers, fax, calculator, etc.; good verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience: Experience in food, especially meats, preferred.
