Summary

As a Senior Maintenance Mechanic, you will work independently to ensure the functionality of buses and other vehicles operated by the SunLine Transit Agency. Your role will involve conducting preventative and routine maintenance as per the manufacturer's guidelines, along with inspecting, diagnosing, and addressing mechanical and technical issues to restore vehicles to service efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform vehicle inspections and execute preventative and routine maintenance on all mechanical, HVAC, electrical, lighting, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, adhering to manufacturer recommendations.
  2. Evaluate vehicles for reported issues, troubleshoot, and determine the best course of action for repairs. Acquire necessary parts and tools, and carry out repairs in a timely and professional manner. Conduct shop and road tests to confirm repair effectiveness.
  3. Fulfill essential functions of the position within the maintenance department or in the field as required.
  4. Guide and mentor junior mechanics, providing assistance and direction as needed.
  5. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  6. Perform additional duties or special assignments as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a maintenance mechanic or in a related field with heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Experience with air brake system diagnosis and repair.
  • Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools, as well as special testing equipment for diagnostics.
  • Competent in operating machinery and equipment used in maintenance, including welding and lifts.
  • Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and application.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B, or obtain it within three months of hire.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    1. Three or more years of experience with conventional and/or alternative fuel sources, including CNG and electric or hydrogen.
    2. Certification in diesel mechanics and/or alternative fuel sources.
    3. Experience in servicing and repairing HVAC, wheelchair lift systems, fire suppression, and similar systems.
Supplemental Information:

Periodic adjustments to the hourly rate are contingent upon meeting specific milestones.
