Job Overview

The Farm Production Intern will support the Production Department in maintaining the farm's production fields, food forest, composting area, and propagation house. This role will involve learning about and supporting various farm-related projects, including planting, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and irrigation management.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining the production fields, including planting, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting.
  • Support staff during community programs and events.
  • Participate in composting and propagation house tasks.
  • Learn about and support various farm-related projects, including irrigation management and trellising.
Qualifications and Experiences
  • Interest in organic, regenerative, and/or sustainable farming practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to bend, squat, kneel, or stand for extended periods in a range of climate conditions.
  • Ability to safely work with sharp hand tools.
  • Eager learner, flexible with assignments, and willing to jump into unfamiliar tasks.
  • Pursuing a certificate or degree in a related field, such as environmental education, agriculture, food justice, or ecological stewardship.
  • Passionate about Jewish community farming, food justice, and/or food systems development.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable using a computer.
  • Familiarity with Jewish heritage, traditions, and practices is a plus.
  • Competency in Spanish is a plus.
Working Conditions

Farm Production Interns will primarily work outdoors and around the post-harvest station. There will be exposure to Southern California outside temperatures, chemicals used in the agricultural industry, and loud noises.

  • Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to walk a minimum of 0.5 miles on uneven narrow trails with elevation gain.
