We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Care Specialist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Respiratory Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients, including administering respiratory therapy procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Treatment: Use respiratory therapy processes to support assessment of patients, utilizing a variety of skills such as pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, and correlates blood gases and electrolytes.
- Equipment Operation: Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues, and assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable to the facility.
- Medication Administration: Provide medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols as prescribed.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and ensure proper functionality of equipment, troubleshoot equipment as necessary, and identify the need for service and/or repair.
- Patient Education: Educate and instruct patients in the purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
- Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate clinical problem-solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients, and demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
- Licensure and Certification: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months, or Active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC if credential received prior to January 1, 2019.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program, with a minimum of an associate degree.
- Experience: No experience required.
- Skills and Abilities: Effective organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, proficient computer skills, use of electronic medical record systems, excellent communication (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal skills, and ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
The Respiratory Care Specialist will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, operating all necessary equipment, lifting 50 lb objects from knee to waist, and demonstrating safe body mechanics at all times.
