We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Barr Engineering Company. As a key member of our geotechnical engineering team, you will be responsible for managing geotechnical projects from concept to construction, maintaining and developing client relationships, and providing support through training and mentorship for other geotechnical engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Manage geotechnical projects from concept to construction, ensuring timely completion and meeting client expectations.
- Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions.
- Provide support and training to junior geotechnical engineers, helping them to develop their skills and expertise.
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates for geotechnical projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate field and laboratory testing, ensuring that all necessary data is collected and analyzed.
- Interpret and analyze geotechnical data to establish engineering properties of materials and foundation recommendations.
- Complete geotechnical engineering analyses, including seepage, slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, and rotational stiffness.
- Prepare reports and presentations for clients, summarizing project findings and recommendations.
- Act as lead geotechnical engineer on multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with other engineers and stakeholders to deliver projects.
- Travel for periodic out-of-town assignments, as required.
- Bachelor's degree in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
- 10 years of related work experience, with a strong background in geotechnical analysis and design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative.
- Proven project management experience, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Flexible working style, with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering Company.
- Master's degree in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of relevant work experience, with a strong background in geotechnical analysis and design.
- Experience working in consulting engineering, with a strong understanding of client needs and expectations.
- Strong relationships with clients, with the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service.
This position is based out of Barr Engineering Company's Minneapolis, Minnesota office. The successful candidate will be required to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided prior to being given field work assignments. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.
