Job Description:

The Geotechnical Engineer will be part of an innovative team of over 80 geotechnical engineers and field geologists at Barr Engineering Co.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform fieldwork such as construction observation, material testing, surveying, and subsurface investigations.
  • Oversee on-site and in-laboratory material testing.
  • Conduct geotechnical field investigations, including collecting field samples and performing field logging of exploratory test borings.
  • Develop field data in support of geotechnical investigations and design.
  • Travel for periodic out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • GPA of 3.2/4.0.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • At least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
  • Ongoing enrollment in an ABET-accredited civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering degree program.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software.
  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results.
  • Thorough, organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated approach.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to rent a car for out-of-town assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • GPA of 3.5/4.0.
  • Familiarity with gINT and modeling software, such as GeoStudio, FLAC, or Plaxis.
  • Completed at least one semester of upper division (junior/senior level) engineering coursework.
