Quality Assurance Inspector, Bayway Refinery

The Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring the mechanical integrity of fixed equipment and piping within the refinery by conducting necessary inspections at scheduled intervals. Inspectors are tasked with examining, inspecting, gathering information, and assessing inspection data. They also provide insights and recommendations under the supervision of an Inspection Supervisor or Chief Inspector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting and coordinating essential inspections of piping and equipment
- Identifying equipment and piping that require repair or replacement
- Issuing welding and inspection specifications for new and replacement equipment
- Performing positive material identification on new and replacement alloy components
- Selecting appropriate non-destructive examination (NDE) technologies and applications
- Overseeing NDE teams conducting ultrasonic and radiographic testing, along with other inspection technologies
- Reviewing X-ray and other NDE data
- Assessing engineering packages for new installations
- Participating in turnaround inspections
- Authorizing repairs and providing QA/QC on all work completed within their designated area/zone
- Documenting detailed inspection and turnaround reports and maintaining records
- Presenting findings to operations, mechanical, technical, and management teams
- Updating equipment inspection documentation
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Minimum age of 18 years
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 5 years of direct experience as an inspector
- 5 or more years of experience in the petroleum, chemical, or related industry
- Minimum of one API Certification (API 510, 570, or 653)
- Willing and able to comply with the following:
- Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
- Maintain a clean-shaven face for proper respirator/face mask sealing
- Work outdoors and in potentially inclement weather conditions
- Lift and transport up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, perform moderate manual labor, work in confined spaces, climb, and work at various heights
- Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
- Familiarity with standard non-destructive examination (NDE) methods
- Knowledge of visual welding inspection
- Additional API certifications
- AWS CWI Certification
- Associate's Degree / Trade Certification
- Basic understanding of metallurgy and welding
- Ability to interpret detailed fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, and P&ID's
- Knowledgeable about damage mechanisms affecting refinery equipment, including corrosion fundamentals
- Basic understanding of risk-based inspection methodologies
- Proficient in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, and PCMS
