Position Overview


The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of LISC's programs and investments in the Bay Area.


This role involves raising capital and resources locally, leveraging support from National LISC, and nurturing relationships with government, philanthropic, community, and civic partners.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the role of community-based non-profit organizations as catalysts for positive community change, alongside an understanding of the public and private partners that can enhance community development efforts in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising


Strategically cultivate and manage a portfolio of existing funders, including philanthropic organizations, financial institutions, corporations, and government entities, with a focus on increasing investments to address racial wealth, health, and opportunity disparities.


Identify and nurture new relationships while providing innovative strategic opportunities with foundations and public/private partners dedicated to the Bay Area and community development.


Lead efforts to achieve annual multi-million dollar fundraising targets to ensure operational sustainability and meet programmatic objectives, including organizing events and developing a communication strategy to highlight annual milestones.


Oversee the Local Advisory Board and its committees to support the strategic direction of Bay Area program activities and connect LISC to key opportunities.

Community Development and Program Management

Manage and implement LISC's signature affordable housing initiatives, including the Partnership for the Bay's Future. Foster public-private partnerships to deliver technical assistance, innovative programs, and problem-solving solutions.


Oversee the expansion of the Bay Area's investment pipeline to support LISC's comprehensive approach to equitable development by managing lending activities, deploying resources, developing new loan products, and creatively leveraging available resources to maximize impact.


Provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and guidance for all aspects of LISC's programs, enhancing LISC's presence in the Bay Area through targeted initiatives and investments.


Engage a diverse array of community partners to deliver holistic and integrated services to targeted neighborhoods, collaborating with local government, state agencies, financial institutions, advocacy groups, and community organizations.

Public Policy and Advocacy

Lead initiatives on housing and community development policy issues in the Bay Area.


Advocate for LISC and policy networks at local, state, and federal levels to secure necessary tools for advancing a comprehensive community development strategy.

Leadership and Management


Guide a professional team of ten to implement LISC's strategy and operate its programs in a hybrid work environment.


Provide professional development and training for the team.


Manage annual operating and program budgets, including financial reporting.


Foster a positive work culture and relationships within the national LISC framework.


Contribute to national LISC leadership structures and meetings.


Highlight local innovations and programs within the national LISC context.


Maximize the utilization of national LISC resources and expertise in the Bay Area.


Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience); Master's degree preferred.

A minimum of ten years of senior management experience in community development, real estate, capital development, and revitalization.

Experience in shaping affordable housing through development or lending.

Proven ability to attract and sustain philanthropic funding.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking in diverse settings.

Demonstrated management experience, including staff development, financial oversight, and program implementation.

Proven track record in providing leadership for strategic vision development and implementation.

Ability to prioritize tasks aligned with a strategic plan and manage agendas effectively.


Knowledge and experience in community development strategies, including real estate resource and capital development strategies.

Experience in building relationships and collaborating with diverse populations and organizations.


Familiarity with housing policy, community development funding mechanisms, economic development, and wealth-building strategies.


Proficiency in using data to inform decision-making.

Compensation

LISC offers a competitive salary range of $173,000 - $203,100, commensurate with experience and location, along with excellent benefits.


Actual salaries may vary based on several factors, including a candidate's skill set, experience, education, work location, and other qualifications.
