POSITION OVERVIEW
The Middle School Program Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a safe and engaging environment for youth during after-school hours. This position requires building meaningful connections with participants, parents, and staff while ensuring the program meets the needs of the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishing and nurturing positive relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and colleagues; greeting youth by name to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Maintaining regular communication with the Site Coordinator regarding program operations and expectations.
- Assisting in the recruitment, planning, supervision, and management of students and daily activities.
- Leading and supervising program participants in alignment with YMCA standards across all areas of the facility and during activities.
- Ensuring the safety of youth during transportation; enforcing appropriate bus conduct.
- Starting and concluding the program punctually; available post-program to address any inquiries from participants or parents.
- Providing information on outreach initiatives and schedules as necessary.
- Conducting surveys for students and parents to gather feedback.
- Performing daily cleaning tasks and additional duties as required.
- Setting up and dismantling the program area; reporting any facility or equipment issues to the supervisor in writing.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of participants; addressing disciplinary matters with the Site Coordinator.
- Adhering to and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including those related to health, emergencies, and safety.
- Being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency protocols.
- Documenting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate forms and submitting them to the supervisor within 24 hours.
- Timely submission of completed records, including daily attendance and surveys.
- Participating in all required training sessions and meetings.
- Maintaining punctuality and following established procedures for absences.
- Supporting fundraising efforts for the Strong Community Campaign.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Adherence to the responsibilities of the Middle School Program Coordinator will ensure a secure, supervised, and high-quality program that reflects the needs and feedback of participants, with anticipated growth in program enrollment.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant experience working with youth.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and engaging in light to moderate physical activity for extended periods; capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; must have finger dexterity and visual acuity.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and task management abilities; capable of making independent decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Exhibiting maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, and a passion for working with youth.
- Demonstrating initiative in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to relate to and collaborate with diverse groups in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Working effectively as a team member as well as independently, meeting assigned goals and deadlines.
- Maintaining a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA.
- Attendance at New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of CPR/AED and First Aid training as per employment conditions.
- Familiarity with all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch.
- Understanding and compliance with all policies and procedures established by the association.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that meets the needs of the branch.
