Health Unit Coordinator Emergency Department

The Health Unit Coordinator for Emergency Services performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties for the unit, including customer service, coordination of flow and activity, typing, filing, data input, answering phones, and acting as a resource for the EMR for providers. This role assumes responsibility for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into their job performance and contributes to the recruitment and retention of talented staff through positive role-modeling and fostering peer relationships.
Responsibilities- Provides support to physicians by maintaining patient charts and assumes responsibility for their role in achieving/maintaining financial health of the organization by utilizing resources effectively and efficiently.
- Coordinates overall unit activities, including greeting patients and families, physicians, traffic control, and answering call lights from desk or on occasion from in the room.
- Provides customer services by addressing or redirecting questions or concerns from patients, families, caregivers, or healthcare team members.
- Coordinates the Patient Experience for the unit, including discharge phone calls and instructions, assisting patients and families with educational videos, rounding with nursing assistants/PCTs, and assembling new patient folders.
- Maintains chart integrity by assuring that appropriate forms are included in the chart and performs chart audits for DNV Advanced Directives.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Other EMR experience and medical terminology required.
- Clinical Other/BCLS - Basic Life Support Current BLS Upon Hire required.
