Columbia University School of Professional Studies is seeking a qualified instructor to develop and teach a course on medicine as a career choice for our Pre-College Programs.
This highly selective program is open to high-achieving high school students and offers the opportunity to engage in exploratory coursework at the college level, studying alongside peers from around the world.
The course will investigate how different types of physicians think within their discipline and what it means to be a doctor in today's society. Topics may include logic and reasoning, evidence-based medicine, human psychology, and the crossroads of media, myth, and medicine.
Responsibilities will include developing course content, leading and attending all in-person class sessions, establishing a dynamic in-class environment, evaluating student work, and monitoring student concerns and inquiries.
Qualifications include a medical degree from an accredited medical school, expertise in the pertinent subject matter, and aptitude for teaching. Compensation will be $3,000 - $3,500, with an additional one-time $750 course development fee for first-time instructors.
Applicants must have U.S. work authorization and may not hold a concurrent appointment with Columbia for the duration of their appointment. Once hired, applicants are required to submit to a third-party background check and complete Protection of Minors training.
