A prestigious reinsurance firm, with a rich history spanning over 80 years, is on the lookout for a skilled treaty underwriter to join their expanding team. The role involves:

  • Monitoring and enhancing profitability across all current accounts.
  • Conducting thorough analysis and evaluation of emerging market trends to identify potential business opportunities.
  • Performing pricing assessments, risk evaluations, and making informed decisions regarding new and renewal business.
  • Reviewing contract language and endorsements to guarantee the precision of policy terms and conditions.
  • Collaborating with support services (claims, accounting) for assigned accounts to facilitate the decision-making process.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree and have 5-10 years of underwriting experience. A strong background in Short Tail business across various treaty types, including CAT, P/risk, and prorata, is essential. Knowledge in standard casualty, multiline, and auto underwriting is also required, with no focus on heavy casualty. Experience within the broker market is necessary, along with a proven track record of maintaining strong relationships with key reinsurance intermediaries.

Additionally, the candidate should be capable of developing a Business Plan aimed at gradually building a light casualty portfolio while simultaneously expanding the short tail portfolio. Strong marketing skills and a willingness to travel are crucial. A solid understanding of underwriting (pricing) tools and Catastrophic modeling tools is expected. Professional designations such as CPCU or ARe are advantageous. Familiarity with the Canadian reinsurance market is a significant plus.
