About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Property Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter to join our team at The Hartford. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for analyzing and pricing new and renewal business, working closely with our broking partners, CAT modeling and actuarial teams to pursue new business and handle assigned renewals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and price new and renewal business
  • Work within a team framework to support the overall goals of the unit
  • Act as a trusted advisor to brokers, responding in a timely manner to build relationships and influence retention
  • Manage accounts on a book of business, balancing retention and profitability
  • Propose and recommend structures to better serve the needs of clients
  • Account for EPI and agreed aggregation thresholds
  • Review treaty contracts that govern our transactions, supported by our dedicated legal contract team
  • Establish and maintain a presence in the market with reinsurance brokers to create new business opportunities
  • Support the purchase of our Property Retro
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in reinsurance underwriting and pricing, or other relevant experience
  • Strong technical, analytical and data skills, with experience with Excel and other computation tools
  • Successful in working independently as well as part of a team
  • Self-motivation, creativity, time-management, project-management, and customer-management skills
  • Solid underwriting experience coupled with strong statistical and modeling background
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse technical backgrounds
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities
  • Process improvement mindset and skilled at developing efficiencies
  • CPCU, ARe, CAT Modeling, Actuarial or other related designations are a plus
