Job Title: School Nurse - LPN

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse - LPN to join our team at Tippecanoe School Corporation. As a School Nurse - LPN, you will be responsible for providing healthcare services to students and staff, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide acute or chronic healthcare, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional scope and standards.
  • Administer medication with appropriate documentation and in accordance with Health Services Clinical Policies.
  • Follow Individualized Healthcare Plans as developed by the RN.
  • Responsible for noting changes in patient status and recognizing deviations from the established plan of care.
  • Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates.
  • Perform Department of Education recommended screening procedures.
  • Report and/or assist in referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
Requirements:
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the State of Indiana.
  • Current Adult, Child, and Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program certificate.
  • Three years of experience as a licensed practical nurse, preferably in pediatrics, community health nursing, adult, and/or mental health nursing.
  • Computer literacy.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, squat, kneel, and climb.
  • Ability to perform repetitious hand and body movements.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, finger, and feel.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone, and to speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids; close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for patient examination.
  • Ability to perceive smells.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 30 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, carry, and/or move patients and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.

Performance Responsibilities:

Nursing Care:

  • Provides acute or chronic healthcare, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional scope and standards as identified by the Indiana Board of Nursing and school policy and procedures.
  • Administers medication with appropriate documentation and in accordance with the Health Services Clinical Policies.
  • Follows Individualized Healthcare Plans as developed by the RN.
  • Responsible for noting changes in the patient status and recognizing deviations from the established plan of care. Notifies the Head Nurse for further instructions.
  • Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, communicable disease reporting, OSHA, and acute or chronic medical conditions.
  • Performs Department of Education recommended screening procedures.
  • Reports and/or assists in referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter, this will be conducted in collaboration with school principal.

Communication:

  • Maintains communication with the Head Nurse, teachers, and other school personnel, and parents/guardians to promote a healthy and safe environment for students.
  • Assists in providing health services, information, and counseling within the scope of practice, in a cost-efficient and effective manner. Notifies the Health Nurse of any student found to have abnormal findings for assessment and referral.
  • Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff and communicates with Head Nurse.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school and health-related issues, unless legally mandated to report.

Organization:

  • Maintains electronic health records in Health Office Anywhere of student visits and documentation on individual health records.
  • Maintains the health office facility and supplies.

Resource Utilization:

  • Utilizes existing EMR - Health Office Anywhere technology effectively in the performance of duties.
  • Records 100% of health visits into Health Office Anywhere.
  • Compiles data for statistical purposes.

Professional Development:

  • Attends nurses' staff meetings, in-services, and credentialing programs provided by the district.
  • Participates as an active member of the school community, representing health, wellness, and safety.
