Position Overview
Electra Aero is in search of a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead the design, analysis, testing, and integration of critical vehicle subsystems for our prototype 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL aircraft. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to a groundbreaking development initiative.

Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Oversee the development of vehicle subsystems, from initial architecture to final integration.
  • Provide expert guidance, technical reviews, and mentorship to the engineering team.
  • Establish subsystem and component requirements that align with safety, performance, and business goals.
  • Select and manage supplier partnerships to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate functional and physical interfaces between vehicle subsystems and the overall vehicle.
  • Conduct and review analyses, modeling, and simulations to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to maintain program alignment.
  • Communicate subsystem design, requirements, and performance effectively across teams.
  • Understand program objectives to conduct trade studies and define subsystem architectures and interfaces.
  • Prepare and present findings at design reviews to validate design adequacy.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or a related STEM field) with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the aircraft development process and familiarity with aircraft subsystems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and a proactive work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience leading aerospace system development from concept to production.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and certification processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (preferably NX) and mechanical systems analysis techniques.
  • U.S. citizenship or Green Card status.

Working Conditions
This position typically operates in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. The role may require lifting up to 50 lbs.

Travel Requirements
Travel is expected to be less than 25%.
