We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Campus Security Officer to join our team at Onondaga Community College. As a sworn, armed law enforcement officer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a campus public safety/security program to provide for the protection and safety of persons and property on campus.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and maintain established security plans, policies, and procedures for a safe and secure campus environment.
- Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking areas to maintain order, protect persons and property, control traffic, and provide first aid.
- Act as liaison between the college and law enforcement and firefighting agencies to establish and maintain an effective system of crime and fire prevention.
- Investigate, document, and make follow-up reports and recommendations of all incidents reported or assigned to the Campus Security Officer.
- Monitor the effective operation of security and fire alarm and energy management systems to ensure full operational condition.
- Make regularly scheduled fire inspections of buildings and fire extinguishers.
- Maintain campus incident and crime and safety records and develop related reports for the college, state university system, and federal, state, and local governments.
- Work with campus groups and employees on programs such as self-protection, escort services, student patrols, and the prevention of crime on campus.
- Identify problem areas and suggest changes in lighting, shrubbery, or concealed areas.
- Secure and check all doors, windows, and entrances to buildings to ensure they are secure.
- Control and direct traffic on campus or campus-related roads, grounds, and parking areas.
- Investigate motor vehicle accidents that occur on campus or campus-related property.
- Provide assistance to motorists with lock-outs, dead batteries, and other vehicular problems.
- Give directions and information to students and visitors.
- Enforce the college's policies and student conduct and disciplinary procedures.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate's degree or completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours.
- Two (2) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in a uniformed position requiring police officer or peace officer certification.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
- Possession of a valid New York State Drivers' License, including any special endorsements, as required for the type of vehicle being operated.
- Candidates must successfully complete an approved Municipal Police Training Council Training Program for Peace Officer as described in Section 2.30 of Criminal Procedure Law and candidates must be eligible to obtain a Firearms License pursuant to Section 400 of New York State Penal Law.
