Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Store Associate to join our team at Williams Lumber. As a Store Associate, you will be responsible for performing physical tasks involving the movement, storing, and maintenance of lumber and building materials, as well as providing exceptional customer service and general yard maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Offer prompt and courteous service to customers by assisting with orders and verifying material quantities.
  • Cut stock to size using stationary power saws and record actions on a "cut sheet" to reconcile stock records.
  • Advise Yard Foreman or Inventory Control Specialist of low stock items and prepare material for delivery.
  • Assist Load Setter and Driver in loading delivery vehicles and accompany drivers to assist with off-loading at job sites.
  • Prepare Return Material Authorization forms (RMA's) to confirm material returns and submit for approval.
  • Ensure the tidiness and condition of assigned storage areas and handle materials safely to avoid injury or damage.
  • Stack lumber neatly and safely, and maintain even levels.
  • Pick up and dispose of stickers, strapping, and other yard debris, and sweep and clear areas of debris.
  • Perform mowing, weed whacking, and snow removal tasks as needed.
  • Inform supervisors of any equipment or safety concerns.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma; or twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and memos, and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, associates, and vendors.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry, and solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardizations exist.
Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, and regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Forklift training and demonstrated continuing forklift operation competency are required for this role.
