Job Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating health services for all assigned service sites. This position oversees the day-to-day clinical operations to ensure quality of care and services, regulatory compliance, and support of business development and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct the selection and hiring of clinical staff.
- Conduct interviews and make hiring decisions.
- Ensure staff competency and performance.
- Conduct/participate in quarterly quality improvement meetings and oversee the implementation of improvement plans.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in the implementation of quality improvement activities and corrective action plans.
- Participate in weekly team/staff meetings and Interdisciplinary team (IDT/PDP) meetings.
- Chair committees as applicable (e.g., safety, infection control, incident/accident review, human rights, etc.).
- Provide training as indicated for staff, including medication administration, signs and symptoms of illness, and clinical processes.
- Ensure delegated clinical tasks are completed appropriately and that delegates receive applicable training, supervision, and routine performance reviews.
- Ensure that there is a nurse on call after hours for all homes and participate in on-call rotation.
- Ensure direct, on-site supervision for all staff at least annually.
- Facilitate communication and serve as a liaison between and among nursing staff, nursing and direct care staff, the work site, and community medical providers.
- Provide feedback to Operations management regarding necessary changes and revisions.
- Ensure assigned staff are evaluated fairly and timely in accordance with ResCare performance evaluation procedures.
- Accountable to ensure all clinical staff appropriately and successfully complete orientation and all required in-services.
- Coordinate and oversee all activities associated with medical contract providers.
- Attend/complete all manager training as applicable.
- Ensure on-call nursing coverage to ensure weekend and after-hours access to clinicians by staff and individuals served.
- Assist operations management team in fostering positive community relations with external customers as needed.
- Responsible for the oversight of and response to external and internal surveys and audits within assigned area relating to health services.
- Ensure that mortality reviews are completed within five days of death and submit to State Health Services Director and Assigned Director, Clinical Practice Review utilization report at least monthly to ensure adequate hours on client plans and increase or decrease as needed to ensure client needs are met.
- Ensure nursing services are delivered according to authorizations and plan of care.
- Monitor due dates for nursing assessments and ensure timely completion.
- Ensure all medication and service authorizations are obtained timely.
- Provides direct nursing care as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Qualifications: Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
- Must have no less than 2 years nursing experience, and at least 1 year in related management/supervisory role.
- Experience in providing services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities, or related disorders preferred.
- CPR certification.
- Valid drivers license, with a satisfactory driving record, as defined by ResCares vehicle policy.
- Must meet all agency requirements for pre-employment as required by ResCare and/or State regulations.
- Must have the ability to use a computer utilizing company documentation systems.
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Capable of working responsibly with highly confidential information.
- Maintains certification an any/all state-required clinical certifications (e.g., Medication Delegation instructor).
