Job Description

As a Host at Marcus Bar & Grille, you will be the first point of contact for our guests, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Your primary responsibility will be to provide courteous, prompt service to our guests, ensuring they feel welcome and valued throughout their visit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Check voicemails at the beginning and end of every service to stay informed about guest requests and updates.
  • Understand the steps of service and consistently execute them with efficiency and grace, maintaining a sense of urgency throughout the service.
  • Be an expert in navigating Resy, ensuring seamless guest experiences and optimal table management.
  • Ensure the coat check is clean and organized at the beginning and end of each shift, providing a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.
  • Accurately enter guest orders into the POS system (Toast) when guests order over the phone, maintaining the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate guest requests to management when they see anything noted on Resy, fostering a culture of excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Plot the reservation book pre-service to optimize turn times and guest flow in the dining room, ensuring a smooth and efficient service.
  • Effectively communicate with all FOH team members throughout the service, ensuring seamless execution of tasks and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Maintain a positive, outgoing demeanor during service, with guests, and co-workers, embodying the spirit of hospitality and teamwork.
  • Be safety-conscious to promote the safety of oneself, co-workers, and guests at all times, adhering to the highest standards of safety and security.
  • Interact with genuine and patient hospitality when speaking to vendors and guests, cultivating relationships with regulars and fostering a culture of loyalty and retention.
  • Able to multitask and cover multiple FOH roles depending on the demands of the business, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a general understanding of Department of Health (DOH) food safety standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, maintaining the highest level of attention to detail and ensuring a seamless transition between shifts.
  • Maintain a positive, outgoing demeanor during service, adhering to the highest standards of hospitality and customer service.
  • Adhere to company policy and procedures, embodying the values and mission of Marcus Samuelsson Restaurant Group.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, demonstrating a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a passion for hospitality, teamwork, and exceeding guest expectations, demonstrating a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional service.
  • Minimum 1-year Hosting experience in a high-volume restaurant operation, with a proven track record of success and a strong understanding of the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of Resy, OT, Tock, or any similar reservation system, ensuring seamless guest experiences and optimal table management.
  • Prior related experience requiring cash handling, excellent customer service, service recovery, and problem-solving skills, demonstrating a strong ability to handle complex situations and challenges.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing the needs of guests, maintaining a high level of energy and enthusiasm throughout the service.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers throughout the restaurant, fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, demonstrating a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Must be punctual with scheduled shifts, ensuring a high level of reliability and accountability.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 lbs, requiring frequent bending, reaching overhead, and twisting, as well as the ability to stand or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift.
