The Transbay Joint Powers Authority is seeking a seasoned, proactive, and articulate professional to fulfill the role of Chief Engineer.
Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Chief Engineer will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all engineering aspects related to the Salesforce Transit Center's facilities, collaborating closely with the entire TJPA team.
This position entails supervising the performance and services of all capital programs, managing adjacent projects near the TJPA facilities, and overseeing emergency engineering initiatives and tenant improvement construction activities. The Chief Engineer will ensure effective reporting and financial management of capital planning for the existing facility while interfacing with the Downtown Rail Extension (DTX) project to maintain continuity in all modifications to the Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilizing technical principles and practices in architectural, civil, environmental, retail commercial, and transportation projects.
- Collaborating with professional engineers on tasks requiring advanced engineering and architectural expertise.
- Conducting advanced-level work in both construction and office settings, adhering to established design and construction management methodologies.
- Engaging with the public, contractors, public agencies, and other stakeholders regarding engineering design and construction issues.
- Performing field inspections of existing structures, construction sites, and various projects.
- Preparing documentation including meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, contract specifications, material lists, cost estimates, budgets, and schedules.
- Collecting, organizing, and maintaining engineering and architectural data, construction records, and reports.
- Participating in public and project meetings, presenting technical and project information effectively.
- Drafting various program-related documents such as correspondence, memos, studies, and reports.
- Advising the Facility Director on engineering implications related to events, operations, or capital planning.
- Reviewing contractor invoices and progress payment applications, maintaining logs, updating construction schedules, and gathering necessary records for negotiating change orders and defending against construction claims.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer's license (Civil) or Registered Architectural License in California.
- A minimum of 20 years of engineering or architectural experience post-graduation.
- Comprehensive understanding of both vertical and horizontal engineering and construction.
- Experience in overseeing consultants and managing project schedules.
- Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing engineering estimates.
- Advanced computer skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong budget management and financial acumen.
