Job Summary

The Phlebotomy Specialist performs phlebotomy and other specialized specimen collection procedures for patients in both in-patient and out-patient settings. Key responsibilities include processing, organizing, labeling, and transporting specimens, as well as inputting and extracting data with the Laboratory Information System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects and processes biological specimens, including STAT samples, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs Laboratory Information System functions, including filing requisitions, reports, and other pathology materials.
  • Organizes workload and sets priorities to ensure efficient specimen collection and processing.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Course in phlebotomy/venipuncture preferred.
  • 3 months of phlebotomy work or training experience, including data entry and specimen handling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification (ASCP, ACA, AMT, or NCCT).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills to handle a heavy workload and maintain accuracy.
  • Possesses basic computer knowledge and operates multiple computer systems.
