The ideal candidate will take ownership of designing and constructing the next generation of onboard satellite software. The Lead Software Systems Architect will spearhead and direct the architecture for these pioneering satellite systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an independent technical Subject Matter Expert, crafting intricate software architectures for unique satellite systems
  • Oversee the development and documentation of comprehensive software requirements and interfaces for diverse mission profiles
  • Establish Software Development and Verification Plans to ensure the delivery of high-assurance, certified flight software
  • Guarantee adherence to all Software Quality, Product Security, and Enterprise Design Practices throughout the software lifecycle
  • Address complex software interactions across satellite bus, power and thermal systems, communications and encryption, command and data handling, guidance and navigation, onboard autonomy, ground control, mission operations, and system redundancies
  • Guide geographically-dispersed business partners in integrating developmental software products into satellite architectures
  • Counsel program stakeholders on system-level architecture; maintain regular and transparent communication with key partners
  • Lead software research and development initiatives
  • Author technical documentation and support proposal efforts across various product lines
  • Act as a consultant to the leadership team in long-term planning for technology research and advancements critical for future business growth
  • Mentor and train team members
Essential Qualifications:
  • Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science from an accredited institution
  • 14+ years of experience in software architecture and embedded real-time software development
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded software design, development, debugging, and integration testing
  • 10+ years of proficiency in C++ programming
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
  • Familiarity with configuration management and collaboration tools such as Git, JIRA, Collaborator, Beyond Compare, and VersionOne
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or Agile Scrum methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in developing software products for the Space domain
  • 10+ years of experience in critical flight software (LOR 1/2/3, DAL A/B/C)
  • 10+ years of experience in Network Programming and TCP/IP protocols
  • 10+ years of experience in developing scientific algorithms or simulations using auto-generated code with Julia and/or MATLAB
  • 10+ years of experience in leading or mentoring technical teams
  • 10+ years of experience in responding to requests for proposals (RFP) and providing contract support
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Wind River Systems VxWorks, DDC-I Deos, or Green Hills Software Integrity, as well as Linux in embedded systems
  • Knowledge of cyber security concepts and compliance, encryption, and red-black architecture
  • Familiarity with satellite guidance, navigation, and control concepts (orbital mechanics, control theory, etc.)
  • Experience with vehicle automation, mission management, and fault management
  • Understanding of Enterprise Standard Gated Process (EGSP) and Gate Incremental Checkpoints Assessment (GICA)
