Position Overview

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) plays a critical role in providing anesthesia care to surgical patients across various procedures. This position is integral to the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program, where the CRNA will deliver essential services as outlined below. The CRNA is responsible for conducting thorough pre-anesthesia evaluations, developing anesthesia plans, administering anesthesia, and monitoring patients throughout their surgical experience. Collaboration with the surgical team is key, as is the maintenance and upkeep of anesthesia equipment.

Key Qualifications

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthetic assessments, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, ensuring all findings are meticulously documented.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement standard operating procedures related to anesthesia administration and management.
  • Possess a current, unrestricted license as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists is mandatory for employment.
  • Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications, with a preference for American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Hold a valid DEA License.
  • U.S. citizenship or possession of a Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Willingness to relocate to the project site for the duration of the contract.
  • Ability to obtain VA Public Trust Clearance.
Core Responsibilities

  • Apply professional nursing principles in the care of assigned patients to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Perform detailed pre-anesthetic patient histories and physical examinations, collecting relevant perioperative data.
  • Formulate and communicate anesthetic plans, discussing risks and benefits with patients.
  • Administer various forms of anesthesia and continuously monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, providing airway management and administering necessary fluids and medications.
  • Stay updated on advancements in anesthesia practices to enhance patient care.
  • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to improve patient care services.
  • Perform intravenous access as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is typically conducted in an office environment.
  • Position may require prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 15 lbs.
