The Oncology Infusion Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring a supportive and efficient infusion experience for patients, healthcare providers, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Administering a variety of treatments including blood products, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive medications to oncology patients, adhering to established protocols and age-specific guidelines.
Assisting medical professionals with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, preparing and processing laboratory specimens, and delivering comprehensive patient education while maintaining a sterile and organized infusion environment.
Essential Duties:
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Monitors patient adherence to treatment plans and evaluates their response to therapies.
- Demonstrates proficiency in both basic and advanced clinical procedures, including venipuncture and IV fluid administration.
- Records all interventions and patient outcomes accurately in the medical documentation system.
- Assesses the need for medication adjustments and coordinates care transitions with the oncology care team.
- Handles patient inquiries effectively, triaging concerns and formulating appropriate nursing interventions.
- Enhances patient comfort by providing necessary resources and referrals to community support services.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to prioritize patient needs and optimize care delivery.
- Ensures continuity of care by facilitating communication between outpatient and inpatient services.
- Conducts thorough patient assessments to develop tailored care plans based on individual health status.
Qualifications:
Required Credentials:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred or ONS provider card
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience:
Preferred candidates will have a minimum of two years of experience in oncology or infusion nursing, demonstrating a professional demeanor and a commitment to patient-centered care.
