Overview:
The Portsmouth School Department is seeking dedicated custodians responsible for the upkeep and enhancement of school facilities. This role is essential in providing a safe, clean, and orderly environment conducive to learning. All responsibilities must align with established protocols and timelines to ensure minimal disruption to school operations.

Supervision:
This position operates under the general oversight of the Operations Manager, Facilities Director, and Building Principal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Custodial Duties: Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks in classrooms, dining areas, hallways, restrooms, and other facilities.
  • Cleaning Equipment: Utilize various cleaning tools and machinery to maintain floors, carpets, and surfaces.
  • Sanitation: Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in all restroom facilities and common areas.
  • Maintenance Tasks: Conduct minor repairs and upkeep of plumbing and ventilation systems, as well as replacing light bulbs and performing touch-up painting.
  • Security Measures: Verify the functionality of doors and locking systems at the start of each shift and secure all access points at the end of the work period.
  • Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
  • Facility Support: Assist in setting up and breaking down furniture for events and meetings.
  • Resource Management: Promote efficient use of resources and report on maintenance tasks as required.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and custodial practices.
  • Prior experience in custodial or maintenance roles is preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform physical tasks.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks.

Additional Information:
Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the department's objectives.
