Job Summary:

The Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist will be responsible for directing, planning, and organizing the nursing activities on the CV-SDU unit for an assigned shift, focusing on patient, physician, and staff needs. The RN will deliver skilled patient care through the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures, coordinating patient care among patient/family, medicine, nursing, and ancillary personnel, acting as a patient advocate, and maintaining current knowledge and standards of professional nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize expert clinical judgment in delivering intermediate nursing care and managing life-sustaining physiologic functions in stable/unstable patients.
  • Organize care delivery in collaboration with the interdisciplinary teams to promote continuity and accountability for patient care.
  • Develop and implement complex unit programs/protocols for optimizing patient care and enhanced management of resources.
  • Provide care for patients with IV therapy, including cardiac drips, use of blood and blood products, ongoing cardiac and pulmonary monitoring, and pain management.
  • Assist during bedside procedures such as Chest Tube placement, complex wound care, and PICC placements.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of normal and abnormal lab values with appropriate intervention.
  • Interpret EKGs and telemetry monitoring.
  • Provide cardiac and pulmonary support and frequent head-to-toe physical assessments on medical and post-surgical patients.
  • Apply advanced critical thinking skills to intervene with appropriate actions for urgent/emergent care, as well as basic IV and central line skills.
  • Demonstrate positive communication skills and behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers.
  • Mentor less experienced RNs, other RNs in expanded roles, and/or students.
  • Recognize psychiatric emergencies and initiate and guide others in the implementation of appropriate and timely actions.

Requirements:

  • Current, active, and unencumbered State RN license.
  • 2 years of experience within the CV SDU/IMC/Tele.
  • ACLS certification.
  • BLS certification.
