Role Summary:
As a School-Based Communication Specialist, you will be instrumental in assisting students to navigate communication hurdles, enhance their speech and language abilities, and reach their academic objectives. Your skills will be crucial in promoting the overall success and well-being of students in the educational landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of speech and language to identify students' communication challenges and formulate tailored treatment plans.
- Implement evidence-based interventions and methodologies to enhance students' communication, articulation, fluency, and language proficiency.
- Work closely with educators, parents, and other members of the educational team to devise and execute strategies that encourage students' engagement in classroom and social activities.
- Track and document students' progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Provide guidance and education to parents, teachers, and support staff on techniques to improve students' communication skills and promote consistency in the classroom.
- Maintain accurate and current records, including session notes, progress reports, and billing documentation.
- Stay informed about the latest research, best practices, and techniques in the field of speech-language pathology.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, team discussions, and professional development opportunities within the school.
- Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations and ethical standards governing speech-language pathology services in educational settings.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Florida licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred.
- Experience in pediatric or school-based speech-language pathology is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, educators, and support staff.
- Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage a diverse caseload.
- Commitment to providing culturally competent and student-centered care.
