Position Summary:
MITRE is looking for a Systems Engineer to support a diverse and expanding portfolio of sponsors within the Treasury, Economics, and Commerce Division. This role will primarily focus on MITRE's engagements with the U.S. Census Bureau, requiring a combination of technical, business process, and operational design expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in advanced technical domains, including cloud computing, information security, document scanning, optical character recognition (OCR), optical mark recognition (OMR), and data storage and retrieval.
  • Coordinate the preparation of materials to support Authority to Operate (ATO) and Continuous Monitoring Evidence.
  • Evaluate identified security risks and facilitate the development of plan of action and milestone (POA&M) responses.
  • Review and recommend improvements for system documentation.
  • Provide technical advisory services and guidance.
  • Assist in planning system migrations and transition activities.
  • Oversee IT infrastructure, system, and documentation configuration management activities.
  • Offer recommendations on change management processes and details.
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather and analyze data to identify trends, themes, and similarities.
  • Develop presentations that effectively communicate assessment findings to support informed decision-making.
  • Contribute to the creation of deliverables, such as concepts of operations, analysis of alternatives, and acquisition packages.
  • Research leading practices, methodologies, tools, and techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5 years of experience collaborating with government sponsors.
  • Familiarity with federal IT systems and security regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT administration and information security.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience in translating technical concepts for leadership.
  • Applicants must be prepared to undergo a US Government Security Clearance process.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in IT infrastructure and application development.
  • Experience interacting with senior government officials.
  • Understanding of principles related to paper data capture operations.
