Job Title: Itinerant EL Instructional Assistant

Join our team as an Itinerant EL Instructional Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of English language learners in our schools.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to assist with the interpretation, translation, instruction, and educational support for students who are not proficient in English. As an Itinerant EL Instructional Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide targeted support to students, helping them to overcome language barriers and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist teachers with instruction and facilitate learning opportunities for K-12 English language learners.
  2. Provide instruction to students as prescribed by the EL Resource Teacher and reinforce skills introduced by the classroom teacher.
  3. Assist teachers in checking and objectively evaluating students' work; work with students individually and in small groups reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines; utilize games, stories or other manipulative to enhance students' learning skills.
  4. Perform tasks consistent with the needs of the student as determined by the EL Coordinator and/or regular classroom teacher.
  5. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  6. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  7. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  8. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  9. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  10. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  11. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  12. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representatives groups as required.
  13. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  14. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  15. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the EL Coordinator and teacher.
Requirements
  1. An Associates Degree preferred.
  2. Two years of higher education or successful passage of the Work Keys Test, required.
  3. Experience working with EL students, strongly preferred.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
  5. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  6. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  7. Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  8. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions in a fast-paced, intensive environment.
  9. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  10. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary to be established by The Limestone County School's District Salary Schedule.
