Job Summary

As a Laboratory Support Technician at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, you will play a critical role in the Core Laboratory department. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing patient specimens for laboratory testing, accurately entering patient demographic and test order information into various computer information systems, and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patient specimens for laboratory testing, emphasizing preanalytic and post-analytic processes
  • Accurately enter patient demographic, insurance, and test order information into computer information systems in a timely manner
  • Review laboratory request forms for complete and accurate demographic and order entry information, resolving and documenting discrepancies as needed
  • Exercise care in specimen handling, preparation, storage, and order entry to protect the identity and integrity of samples
  • Perform and record maintenance for pre and post-analytic laboratory equipment, including specimen barcode label printers, freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges, and glassware cleaning equipment

Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Experience in a medical setting, hospital, or clinic laboratory preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and human anatomy preferred
  • Candidate with college-level coursework in science preferred
