It plays a pivotal role in public health, medical science, and education, and operates as a Level I Trauma Center, providing continuous care for adult, pediatric, psychiatric, and pediatric psychiatric emergencies, as well as specialized services in cardiology, neurology, toxicology, and neonatology. Bellevue also serves as a city-wide medical specialty referral source, with clinical centers of excellence in various fields including Emergency Medicine, Trauma Care, Cardiovascular Services, and Cancer Services.

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Security Officer is to uphold the highest standards of safety for all individuals present within the Bellevue Hospital premises.

Key Responsibilities

As a Security Officer, your duties will encompass:

  • Executing responsibilities in a professional and efficient manner to ensure a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Adhering to uniform guidelines as specified during Roll Call or as directed by your immediate supervisor.
  • Answering phone calls courteously and professionally, clearly identifying your department.
  • Promptly proceeding to your assigned area without delay.
  • Following meal and post relief break protocols as instructed.
  • Reporting any unusual incidents or safety hazards to the Patrol Supervisor or Central Dispatcher.
  • Conducting safety patrols, including fire prevention checks, smoke violation inspections, and visitor hour enforcement, in accordance with established policies.
  • Enforcing rules and regulations applicable to uniformed Hospital Police personnel.
  • Refraining from using facility computers unless authorized, and avoiding restricted areas as per hospital regulations.
  • Providing necessary police services in your designated area and as otherwise directed.
  • Keeping the Desk Office or supervisor informed of all Hospital Police services rendered.
  • Investigating suspicious conditions and circumstances in your assigned area.
  • Maintaining a memo book and presenting it upon request by any authorized personnel.
Minimum Qualifications

Certification(s)/NYS License(s):
1. Candidates must fulfill the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officer certification prior to commencing their official duties. This certification must be maintained throughout employment. Continuous employment with NYC Health + Hospitals is contingent upon satisfactory completion of both entry-level and annual recertification training programs.
2. Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the time of appointment.
3. Candidates must be United States Citizens and residents of New York City at the time of appointment.
4. Candidates must possess good character, with disqualifying factors including serious criminal convictions or dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces.

Educational Level:
1. A high school diploma or its equivalent approved by the State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; or an
2. Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma, along with six (6) months of full-time work experience.
