Summary:

The Welding and Fabrication Team Leader is accountable for the overall output in the welding and fabrication department. This role involves overseeing the team, ensuring the quality of their work, and enhancing productivity. The position requires proficiency in MIG welding of carbon steel and the ability to fabricate products from a diverse range of materials. Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods is essential. The candidate must also be able to bend, kneel, twist, and squat as necessary to fulfill the primary responsibilities of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the manufacturing team to ensure product quality, promote efficient work practices, and guarantee timely completion of work orders.
  • Identify, propose, and implement improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and reduce costs, scrap, and rework of products.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and assess team members while taking corrective actions as needed. Collaborate with HR when necessary.
  • Facilitate cross-training among employees on various equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Direct and coordinate essential manufacturing and operational programs (safety, security, housekeeping, etc.). Maintain, document, and manage equipment logs and standard operating procedures.
  • Work alongside the production manager to ensure effective scheduling of equipment and workforce.
  • Actively engage in production tasks as time permits, maintaining a balance in work management—estimated to be no more than 50% of the time.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the general manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role, with prior experience in welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to set up and operate MIG welding equipment, create fixtures for welding products, and operate press dies; knowledge of CNC programming is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management software, such as CMMS.
  • Proficient in computer usage and capable of interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills; detail-oriented, organized, and resilient.
