Electrical Engineer Job Description

On-Board Companies is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in Richmond, VA.

Job Summary

This is a full-time position located at our client's chemical manufacturing site in Richmond, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems and components for chemical process facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems and components for chemical process facilities
  • Study, design, specify, and service electrical systems, including power generation, power systems performance and control, power distribution, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communication systems, cathodic protection, grounding, lightning protection, heat tracing, etc.
  • Assist in conducting electrical reviews of all project packages prior to IFC to ensure that quality procedures were followed
  • Review project design estimates and work scopes for new projects
  • Consult on design, specification, selection, and services relating to instrumentation and control systems, including basic process control systems, safety systems, control panels, analyzer systems, telecommunications, field instrumentation, valves, etc.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of applicable electrical design experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting
  • PE license preferred
  • Required working knowledge of the NEC and IBC Codes
  • Experience in 480 volt power distribution systems, lighting, schematic wiring diagrams, cable/raceway sizing, lightning protection, and grounding required
  • Experience in voltage drop calculations, wiring sizing, and conduit fill calculations
  • Experience utilizing vendor equipment specifications and reading vendor manuals
  • Preferred experience in fire alarm system design and installation
  • Preferred experience in P&I diagrams, loop sheets, logics, and control schematics
  • Experience in working with and mentoring designers/team members
  • Experience in communicating job packages/projects with construction and plant personnel
  • Experience in developing scopes of work, task analysis, material lists, and project schedules
Physical Requirements
  • Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
  • Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment, such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, and steel-toed boots
  • Must be able to complete necessary field work in process areas around the plant site
