Job Summary

As a Radiologic Tech Lead at Advocate Health, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our radiology department. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced radiologic technologist who can provide leadership and guidance to our team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Acts as a resource to employees and students, providing training, orientation, and day-to-day work direction.
• Assigns, monitors, and reviews the progress and accuracy of work, ensuring productivity and maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
• Directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues, assisting with human resource responsibilities as needed.
• Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, advising and updating staff on procedural changes.
• Identifies performance improvement opportunities within the department and facilitates change.
• Monitors inventory levels, labor productivity, and assists with managing department resources.
• Serves as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff.
• Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments across the system to provide education on managing patients after procedures and other imaging department processes and procedures.
• Proficiently performs basic to advanced radiologic procedures, including general diagnostic, general fluoroscopy, pain clinic, GI lab, urology, and c-arm procedures.
• Communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients' understanding, and address any questions or concerns.
• Positions patients and selects exposure factors for various radiologic examinations, providing patient with radiation protection and safety in accordance with prescribed methods.
• Identifies patient and labels images pertaining to the patient, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure exam accuracy, and processes images ensuring quality of radiographs and calls back patients as necessary.
• Assists, communicates, and consults with the Radiologists, working independently outside the department with providers.
• Oversees the maintenance of records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, documenting billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
• Identifies equipment performance issues and ensures and/or performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures, reporting malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluating new products and equipment.
• Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months
• Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
• Typically requires 5 years of experience in performing radiologic procedures as a Radiologic Technologist

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proficient in radiology positioning and techniques, aseptic techniques, and C-arm
• Advanced knowledge of radiation safety and radiology equipment
• Knowledge of specialty physician protocols and ability to work effectively with diverse providers
• Advanced knowledge of anatomy
• Advanced knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures to assist in facilitation of departmental accreditation
• Ability to act as a role model and to hold staff accountable to Advocate Health's service commitments
• Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members
• Ability to work independently
• Intermediate computer skills
