Job Summary

Metro Nashville Government is seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our team. As a Paramedic, you will provide efficient and specialized emergency medical care to the sick, injured, and/or critically ill when required, and during transportation to medical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to incidents requiring emergency medical care.
  • Determine the nature and extent of the injury or illness.
  • Establish priority for required emergency care as outlined in state regulations.
  • Renders advanced emergency care.
  • Lifts and moves patients as necessary for treatment and transportation to medical facilities.
  • Operates emergency medical apparatus and equipment.
  • Records patient information.
  • Establishes radio communications with hospital emergency department personnel or on-line medical control.
  • Drives ambulance as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures equipment is working properly.
  • Keeps vehicle clean and in efficient operating condition.
  • Participates in on-going training to improve knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a State of Tennessee Paramedic License.
  • Must meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Medical Standards.
  • Must be twenty one (21) years of age.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Paramedic.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Certification in Basic Trauma Life Support (BLTS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Tennessee Department of Health, EMS Division.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency medical care.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced medical procedures and specialized ambulance equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency medical treatment techniques.
  • Knowledge of local streets, and hospital locations.
  • Knowledge of emergency communications codes and procedures.
  • Skill in driving an emergency vehicle.
  • Ability to operate all emergency medical and related equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose injuries and apply proper medical treatment.
  • Ability to serve in a lead/senior capacity over work activities.
  • Ability to make quick accurate decisions concerning human life.
  • Ability to perform demanding physical tasks involved in providing emergency medical care.
  • Ability to use emergency medical and rescue equipment; including two-way radios.
Benefits

Metro Nashville Government offers a generous core benefit package to eligible employees who are regularly and consistently working 20 or more hours per week. Insurance and benefit coverage is effective the first of the month after the employee has worked 30 days. Employees can change their benefits within 60 days of an eligible change in status or during Annual Enrollment.

Metro also offers optional benefits from which the employee may choose. Family members, including eligible spouses, domestic partners and children, are covered under most of our benefits programs.

Paid leave: (Full-time employees)

  • Vacation: 20 vacation days a year.
  • Holidays: 12 holidays per year (Courts may be different).
  • Sick leave: 12 days of sick leave per year.
  • Personal leave: 3 days per year.
  • Other leaves: Judicial leave, military leave, bereavement leave.

Normal Pension for Sworn- Age 53 with 22 years service; Civilian Pension - Age 60 with 25 years service.
