Fluidic Telescope Research Engineer Internship

About the Role:

KBR is seeking two fluidic telescope research engineer interns to support the development of a mission concept for a space observatory based on fluidic shaping. The successful candidates will focus on investigating ionic liquid reflectivity enhancements, supporting development of liquid mirror surface disturbance and tidal effects models, conducting experimental study of the thermal Marangoni effect in ionic liquids, and participating in 50-meter telescope concept development and technology demonstration mission concept development.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigate ionic liquid reflectivity enhancements
  • Support development of liquid mirror surface disturbance and tidal effects models
  • Conduct experimental study of the thermal Marangoni effect in ionic liquids
  • Participate in 50-meter telescope concept development
  • Participate in technology demonstration mission concept development
Requirements:
  • BS in Engineering and currently enrolled in a MS or higher degree program
  • Background in Chemistry and Physics: Thermal Systems, Fluid Mechanics, Experimental Physics
Preferred Skills:
  • Understanding of the thermal Marangoni effect in ionic liquids
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
Compensation:

$20.50/hr - $27.50/hr (California area only)
