Job Summary
University College at Jackson State University is seeking a highly qualified Instructor of English to join our academic support team. As an Instructor of English, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students, particularly those who are at-risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach classes designed to meet the needs of students who are identified as at-risk, utilizing innovative teaching methods and technologies to engage students and promote academic achievement.
- Create individualized action plans to help each student achieve academic goals, providing personalized support and guidance to ensure student success.
- Develop and document instructional outcomes, using data-driven approaches to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Provide weekly academic progress reports to the program coordinator for tutorials, ensuring timely and accurate communication with stakeholders.
- Advise and mentor students, serving as a role model and providing guidance on academic and personal matters.
- Monitor students at on-campus and off-campus program activities, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Provide a positive learning environment, fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusivity.
- Complete all requested reports by the Chair of University College and the Dean, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of University College, contributing to the overall success of University College and Jackson State University.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in English or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours of coursework in English.
- Teaching experience with at-risk students, with a proven track record of success in supporting student academic achievement.
- Working knowledge of learning differences and/or learning disabilities, and best practices in teaching underprepared students.
- Working knowledge of the Banner system, with experience using learning management systems to support instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Creative and innovative skills and abilities, with a passion for using technology to enhance instruction.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
