Overview

This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides reimbursement for student loan payments. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply for this incentive.

Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.

Leave: 50-55 days of paid time off annually (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 days of paid absence for CME).

Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA.

Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).

Licensure: Must hold one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.

Continuing Medical Education: Possible reimbursement of $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).

Malpractice Coverage: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.

Contractual Obligations: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.

Primary Duties:
  • Oversee medical care for a panel of Veterans enrolled in Primary Care.
  • Ensure timely documentation and use of the electronic medical record system for workload capture and management of Veterans' medical care needs.
  • Lead the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).
  • Provide cross-coverage for other medical providers as necessary.
  • Collaborate with PACT members to maintain the safety and quality of care for each Veteran.
  • Accountable for all performance metrics related to patient care quality.
  • Ensure positive customer service in all aspects of care.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and committee/work groups.
  • Maintain necessary licensures and certifications for credentials and privileges.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws.
Work Schedule: Full Time; (8:00am - 5:00pm)

  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
