We are seeking a skilled MRI Specialist to join our team at NYULMC. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing medically prescribed MRI procedures under the general direction of a radiologist and supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up, utilize, and maintain MRI equipment according to established protocols.
  • Perform visual and manual quality control checks of MRI equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Use imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively in accordance with hospital, departmental, and manufacturer procedures.
  • Observe and report any equipment malfunctions or missing/damaged equipment to the appropriate personnel.
  • Implement patient procedures independently in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explain procedures and equipment to patients clearly and provide for their comfort before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Obtain formal consent when necessary and maintain patient privacy at all times.
  • Position patients and MRI equipment appropriately for optimal imaging and adjust equipment settings accordingly.
  • Use identifying markers correctly and follow accepted MRI procedures.
  • Review patient information sheets, consider various protocols, and determine positioning and technique accordingly.
  • Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions and ensure that all exams are of high quality.
  • Solve problems that arise during patient examinations using technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Alter examinations to maximize information in response to patient conditions.
  • Confer with other technologists regarding previous approaches and assist physicians as needed during procedures.
  • Perform transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic display.
  • Generate high-quality hard copies of images when necessary and use efficient methods to complete examinations within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the radiographic area and prepare equipment and supplies in advance for future exams.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and notify nurses, PAs, and/or MDs immediately.
  • Effectively assess patient information and status, and plan appropriate procedures accordingly.
  • Use standard procedures to identify patients correctly and check their wristbands by name, unit, and room number to ensure patient IDs match examination requisitions.
  • Call patients by their last name, ask them to confirm their identity, and introduce yourself to the patient.
  • Review patient requisitions, understand the type of exam required, and confer with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary.
  • Seek information or ask for assistance from supervisors regarding difficult or questionable results.
  • Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine the type of protocol required for radiographic examinations.
  • Consult policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions and recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions.
  • Demonstrate skill in using hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology.
  • Correctly choose patient information from HIS/RIS systems in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate ability to access patient information such as appointment times, exam types, and patient reports.
  • Be knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient tracking.
  • Follow departmental policy of documenting begin, complete, and departure times in the RIS when appropriate.
  • Have working knowledge of film library functions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the HIS and access patient data for verification of orders.
  • Be competent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and/or modify exams when necessary.
  • Maintain department log books in an orderly manner, record machine performance data as directed, and follow established departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate skill in setup and administration of IV contrast media.
  • Explain MRI procedures and the process of administration of contrast to patients and engage radiologists and/or LIPs as appropriate per policy.
  • Ensure that contrast media questionnaires have been filled out by patients.
  • Assess existing intravenous lines or select appropriate venipuncture sites and attach injector tubing to patients' intravenous lines.
  • Load and program contrast media power injectors according to established departmental procedures and assign appropriate injection rates based on access and protocol.
  • Ensure that all emergency equipment is readily available.
  • Inject intravenous contrast using power injectors and monitor patients for signs of contrast media reactions and/or evidence of extravasation.
  • Notify radiologists or LIPs in case of reactions or extravasation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Intravenous Contrast Administration
  • Certification in New York State
  • ARRT Certification/Registration
  • BLS Certification
