Aircraft Mechanic A Job Description

As an Aircraft Mechanic A at Lockheed Martin Corporation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft systems, surfaces, and structures. Your primary responsibility will be to execute planned activities concerning the operational checkout of aircraft systems, surfaces, and structures in a static condition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Follows the optimal production sequence as outlined by Mechanical Engineers and Industrial Engineers.
  • Reports deviations and non-conformance in process or product.
  • Set up systems for operational checkout through a series of configurations.
  • Recognizes operational malfunctioning and localizes and diagnoses its source.
  • Directs and/or makes required adjustments to bring the operations within specifications.
  • Determines, plans, and performs major rework or repair required to make the system operative.
  • Applies a complete working knowledge of all components relating to hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, and electrical work/checkouts.
  • Responsible for area completeness, interior and/or exterior, and final close-up including the installation of exterior panels prior to delivery of aircraft to flight line.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience of aircraft operating procedures, under power-on, hydraulics, or tethered utility feed system in order to perform system checkouts and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in structural rework, repair, modification, and the forming characteristics of various metal.
  • Ability to use mechanics' hand tools effectively.
  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of assembly theory, practice, and procedure and removal and repair techniques.
Working Conditions:
  • Requires full-time standing with limited resting periods and to walk distances.
  • Able to work at heights, climb stairs or ladders as required, and work off of step stools, scissor lifts, lift platforms, and aircraft structure without handrails.
  • Able to work overhead as required.
  • Able to lift/push/pull/carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Able to twist/bend (neck or waist) and stoop, and work in awkward positions as required.
  • Able to squat/kneel/crawl/reach as required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Able to use/hold/manipulate small tools and parts with hands, simple grasping, power grasping, and fine manipulation is required.
  • Able to use vibrating tools and perform torqueing operations.
  • Able to use power moving equipment and power moving equipment.
  • Repetitive tasks will be performed.
Environmental Factors:
  • Able to work around noise, chemicals, fumes, and dust.
  • Capable of using respirators and other personal protective equipment including hearing protection if required.
  • Able to work outside if needed.
Security Clearance:

Able to obtain a security clearance.
