Instructional Assistant for Students with Disabilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Instructional Aide to join our team at International Leadership of Texas. As an Instructional Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities in a classroom setting.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Help meet the individual needs of students, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning, interpreting instructions, and assisting with physical needs and personal care.
- Help manage the behavior of assigned students, including providing verbal de-escalation when students are upset.
- Recognize differences in students' special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly.
- Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
- Help supervise and assist assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
- 48+ earned college credits, associate's degree preferred, or high school diploma with formal academic assessment passed as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Two years of experience working with children.
- Ability to work with children with disabilities, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively.
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion includes frequent walking and reaching. Lifting involves frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) and occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment.
Work is performed inside and outside, with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. There is exposure to noise and biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases). The mental demands of this position include working with frequent interruptions and maintaining emotional control under stress.
