Position Overview: The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is conducting a search for a qualified Anesthesiologist.
About the Institution: The University of Miami is recognized as one of the premier institutions for higher education in the United States, known for its academic excellence, exceptional medical services, and innovative research. It stands as one of the largest private employers in Miami-Dade County, employing over 16,000 faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer anesthesia for a diverse range of surgical procedures, including orthopedics, gynecology, community obstetrics, abdominal surgeries, general vascular operations, and kidney transplants. Note that generalists are not required to handle cardiac cases or treat infants under two years of age. Familiarity with regional anesthesia and the ability to anesthetize older children is advantageous.
- Supervise residents, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) effectively.
- Independently manage cases when necessary.
- Engage in the academic functions of the department, which includes teaching and mentoring trainees, as well as participating in departmental conferences and faculty meetings.
- Participate in on-call duties, expected to be 3-4 overnight calls per month, with some calls potentially from home, including possible evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Effort distribution may vary based on departmental requirements, candidate interests, and success in securing external grant funding.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a U.S. approved residency in Anesthesiology or equivalent training and certification.
- Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology is required (equivalence to board certification will be assessed on a case-by-case basis).
- Research experience is not mandatory but is highly desirable.
