The Position
This recruitment process will create a list for potential openings in full-time and part-time roles.
As a professional in financial auditing and property assessment, you will engage in comprehensive auditing of financial records for businesses and individuals within the jurisdiction. Your role will involve determining the valuation of both secured and unsecured tax accounts, as well as conducting annual appraisals of possessory interests for taxation purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits of financial records and equipment for various entities, ensuring accuracy through thorough review of ledgers, tax returns, and other relevant documents.
- Assess the value of personal property for tax accounts, interpreting tax codes and ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Perform annual appraisals of possessory interests, including analyzing lease agreements and conducting interviews with lessors.
- Evaluate aircraft and marine vessels for tax purposes, utilizing appraisal guides and conducting field inspections.
- Gather and compile data for hearings related to the Board of Equalization.
- Identify new businesses through review of license applications and state tax information.
- Provide assistance to the public by addressing inquiries related to job functions.
- Support the supervisor in calculating factors for property tax assessments and assist in developing related computer programs.
- Interpret relevant state revenue and taxation laws.
- Document and report any operational issues to the supervisor.
- Utilize computer systems to enter and retrieve complex information.
- Disseminate reports and information to various agencies through multiple communication methods.
- Process corrections for property tax rolls as necessary.
- Attend training sessions to maintain certification and represent the department in public meetings.
- Prepare correspondence and reports using word processing tools.
- Provide backup support for colleagues as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, including coursework in auditing, or hold a valid accountant license in California. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience totaling four years may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications:
State Board of Equalization Appraisal Certificate (to be obtained within one year of employment)
Valid California Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of governmental accounting principles and appraisal techniques.
- Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to auditing and appraisal work.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to analyze accounting issues and exercise independent judgment.
- Capability to interpret technical documents and regulations.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Physical ability to perform job functions, including lifting and carrying light objects.
