The Position
This recruitment aims to establish a list for filling open and promotional, regular full-time, and part-time positions as they arise.
As a professional in financial auditing and property appraisal, you will engage in comprehensive auditing of financial records for businesses and individuals operating within the jurisdiction. Your responsibilities will include assessing the value of both secured and unsecured tax accounts, as well as conducting annual appraisals of possessory interests for taxation purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough audits of financial records and equipment for local businesses and individuals, utilizing various information sources to identify new businesses and ensure accuracy in accounts.
- Evaluate the value of personal property related to secured and unsecured tax accounts, interpreting tax laws and reviewing returns for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform annual appraisals of possessory interests, including data entry, lease analysis, and correspondence preparation.
- Assess aircraft and marine vessels for tax purposes, conducting field inspections and utilizing appraisal guides for accurate valuation.
- Compile data for Board of Equalization hearings and assist the public with inquiries related to auditing functions.
- Support the supervisor in determining calculation factors and revising property tax systems as necessary.
- Utilize computer applications for data entry and retrieval, disseminating information to various agencies as required.
- Process roll corrections for prior years upon discovery and attend necessary training to maintain certification.
- Prepare correspondence and reports using word processing software, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Provide backup support for team members and perform additional related duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a focus on accounting, including specific coursework in accounting or auditing, or be a licensed accountant in California. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience totaling four years in relevant fields will be considered.
Licenses and Certifications:
State Board of Equalization Appraisal Certificate (to be obtained within one year of employment) and a valid California Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of governmental accounting principles and appraisal techniques.
- Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications related to auditing and appraisal work.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

- Proficiency in mathematical concepts applicable to auditing.
