JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in a professional, safe, and compassionate manner, adhering to established nursing protocols. This role includes supporting patients and their families during critical times. The nurse will conduct initial and ongoing assessments, ensuring thorough documentation and addressing the educational needs of patients. A collaborative care plan will be developed, and the nurse will engage in the daily operations of the Acute Care Unit, participating in necessary training and quality improvement initiatives. Effective communication with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians and nursing staff, is essential. The individual must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and understand the principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Current or temporary Wyoming licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred candidates will have experience in medical/surgical and pediatric nursing or be recent graduates from an accredited nursing program or refresher course.
SKILLS
Candidates should possess a solid understanding of medical/surgical nursing principles, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices. The ability to perform effectively under pressure, maintain organization, and prioritize tasks is crucial. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to interact with diverse individuals and serve as a role model for peers.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
BLS certification is mandatory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Nursing Practice
- Conduct comprehensive physical and social assessments upon patient admission.
- Formulate and update a written Care Plan daily.
- Initiate and monitor cardiac and oxygen therapies, evaluate IV sites, and assess drainage systems.
- Deliver nursing care through a systematic process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Reassess patients to track progress and identify trends requiring intervention.
- Collaborate with patients, physicians, and peers to establish and achieve care goals.
- Assist with telemetry monitoring and maintain basic arrhythmia interpretation skills.
- Manage and operate medical equipment, including IV pumps and telemetry monitors.
- Provide routine patient care and perform blood draws from central lines.
- Administer medications accurately and maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmacology.
- Continuously monitor patient status and adjust care strategies as needed.
- Document all nursing care and interventions accurately and promptly.
- Facilitate transitions between care statuses, including swing bed transfers.
- Support physicians in patient care, including rounds and procedures.
- Adhere to medication administration protocols and maintain patient safety standards.
- Ensure all necessary consents are obtained and documentation is complete.
- Educate patients and families based on assessed learning needs.
- Treat all patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Follow Nursing Standards of Practice and adhere to hospital policies.
Unit and Hospital Involvement
- Supervise LPNs, CNAs, and support staff in patient care delivery.
- Ensure proper inventory management of supplies and medications.
- Maintain safety and infection control standards in patient care.
- Foster positive relationships with all hospital departments and staff.
- Participate in educational programs and maintain professional development.
- Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all hospital policies.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and unit goals.
- Engage in mandatory training and staff meetings.
- Coordinate emergency responses as needed.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and provide mentorship to nursing students.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
