Position Overview:

Employment Type:
This is a full-time role, with typical working hours from 8:15 am to 4:45 pm. Flexibility in scheduling is essential due to the dynamic nature of a start-up environment, with adjustments made for after-hours responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the Conservatory Director, the Choral Music Educator is responsible for upholding high standards of organizational and academic excellence, with a strong emphasis on fostering student achievement.

Instructional Duties


Design and execute plans for the choral music program, ensuring that lesson plans align with curriculum requirements, incorporating differentiation, scaffolding, and various assessment methods.

Prepare lessons that accommodate diverse student learning styles.


Deliver engaging instruction and meaningful learning experiences that enable students to reach their full potential in intellectual, emotional, physical, and social domains.


Utilize effective instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, and technologies to enhance students' knowledge and skills, catering to the diverse needs of the student population.

Present content in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.


Collaborate with special education staff to adapt curricula for students with special needs as outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Work alongside colleagues to establish instructional goals and methods in line with district requirements.

Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources.

Oversee the assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.

Student Development

Set performance standards, enforce academic requirements, and verify student eligibility for participation in choral activities.


Adhere to all relevant federal and state laws, as well as district policies.

Employ a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student mastery of content standards.


Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other essential documentation.

Budget Management

Ensure cost-effectiveness in program operations and prudent management of funds.

Prepare budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

Coordinate fundraising initiatives and manage financial resources.

Keep an updated inventory of all departmental assets.

Supervise the maintenance and storage of all choral equipment.

Classroom Environment


Create a conducive learning environment that supports the physical, psychological, social, and emotional well-being of students.


Implement effective classroom management strategies to maximize student engagement and learning time.


Establish and consistently uphold expectations for student behavior in various settings.

Take necessary precautions to safeguard students and resources.

Communication

Facilitate open communication with staff, students, parents, and the community.

Foster a collaborative atmosphere among colleagues.

Conduct regular conferences with parents and students to maintain transparency and engagement.

Build and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders.

Utilize effective communication skills to convey information clearly and accurately.

Professional Development

Engage in collaborative professional learning with fellow educators.

Contribute to the design of arts-integrated, project-based learning experiences.

Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance job-related skills.

Additional Responsibilities

Stay informed about and comply with all relevant regulations and policies.

Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.

Attend faculty meetings and participate in committees as necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts and a willingness to meet the diverse needs of students, families, and staff.

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with necessary endorsements (or acceptance into an approved Alternative Certification Program) and successful completion of prerequisite examinations
- Music certification preferred
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching choral music
- Knowledge of choral program operations
- Ability to manage budgets and personnel
- Familiarity with state and UIL policies governing choral activities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Capacity to lead and uphold high standards of academic and artistic excellence
- Adaptability to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Successful completion of a criminal background check required
